Scene I

Today, we started to decide the starting point and tried to choreograph the first scene. I suggested the starting point “Belief” and since other members agreed, we decided that our main starting point will be a belief. We separated each scene one by one and made different beliefs, such as belief in God, belief in myself, belief in a leader, and belief in love. ‘Belief’ should not always be positive, so some scenes decided to be negative about the experience about the belief. The main message we want to deliver to the audience is the question, “What do you believe in?”. We are not in any positive or negative aspect of the topic, that we just want the audience to think about this. To start with, my scene is a belief in God, which is the first scene. I researched about the holy song that matches well with the mood and choreographed the first 30 seconds. I was inspired by the praying gesture and tried to repeat that with recycling and transferring.

This is one of the main scenes in scene 1, that I am being surrounded by the people who are trying to punish me. The costume maximizes the idea of religion that it is a long white dress without any decoration on it. Moreover, the overall set design and the lighting is all directed by me. I wanted to hand white cloth, which hides a god. This white cloth has a similar color with our cloth that shows unity. The lighting should be a little bit dark but have red lights to make the audience feel anxious about the situation and warn them with the light ahead. Moreover, the structure of us also shows the major and minor and canon that every person except me is doing the same movement and I am isolated and being seated.
Scene II

We worked on Geo’s scene, which is scene 2. Her topic is the belief in the leader that the overall story is the group of orchestra believes the maestro, but at the real stage, the maestro makes a mistake and the whole show gets ruined by her. Then, the orchestra leaves the maestro at the end. She directed the scene to have a shadow on the maestro that the maestro on shows her hand with a shadow.

This is one of the movements to show our three member’s collaborative ability. By relying on each other, it dramatically extreminize the future story that all of our three members are falling down together. This movement is quite challenging, but by relying together it became easier to do. This is one of the highlight parts that shows the teamwork of the orchestra team and the relationship between maestro and member. It is also choreographed by me that I thought to catch the attention from the audience using out body in flexible way is the important key. It does not only show the teamwork of three of us but also uses whole body to fully be in the scene.

I learned the skill of utilizing the 9 physical viewpoints in any place. Since the previous compositions or the improvisations were held in black box theatre, I had a narrow perspective of using viewpoints in different places. The bathroom was the most architectural but risky place to transfer the viewpoints I applied in BBT. Transferring skill of knowledge is the biggest part that I learned from this unit’s composition. I knew the definition of spatial relationship and how it works in the flat place that has no floor pattern and multidimensions. However, it was challenging for me to use this in a small but narrow place but helped me to re-think organizing the position of our body and kinesthetic response to react if other people are blocked by me.
Scene III

Scene III is my favorite scene because of the song choice and lots of recycled gestures. This is the start of the performance where the four of us are friends and we are interacting with each other. The unison of the scene emphasizes the power of four friends’ relationships. The lighting is also basic but has a kind of warm-hearted feeling to the audience by mixing the bright facial expressions, bright light, and bright song.

The first gif is a short capture of the movement that shows a broken relationship between friends due to gossip and some issues. The second gif leads the tension to pull Chaeyeon and not to include her into the team. If you look at the movements closely, you can see that the three of us are doing the unison, which shows the united idea but the only Chaeyeon in having a different movement is that she is trying to approach us and become a team again. Her scene took a shorter time to compare to other scenes. I assume that it might be because she built the main structure strictly and choreographed the first 1 minute before we started a rehearsal. I also choreographed the middle 1-minute of the Chaeyeon scene where the conflict begins and we regret cutting off a relationship with Chaeyeon. This emotion is shown by the particular movement that is being recycled over and over throughout the scene, which will be further mentioned in CPP journal criteria D. These gifs are all from the final rehearsal we did as a class, that I could learn about the wow-moment that the point scene that audience thought our work to be interested in.
Scene IV

These two gifs are the first scene of scene 4 and the last part of it. It is a allegorical scene that the start of the show and the last part is being connected by doing the same gestures and movement. There is only one difference between two gifs, which is Seojin’s gesture and facial expression. At the first stage, she did not have any confidence in herself that she just watched how others prepare and perform rather than creating her own path. At the last part; however, she confidently leads the group by using a canon technique. We tried to use a ingredients of great composition as much as possible that the gestures in this scene shows a repetition, cannon, and unison. The each of four gestures represent fixing tie, coughing, reading a note to memorize the preparation question, and cheer up myself not to be too worried about the interview.

Those two gifs are the same part but are changed day before the real performance. The reason why we changed this part day before the performance was because our choreography was inspired by a idol’s performance and other group was also inspired by them that they did a similar movement with us. This part if where Seojin tries to establish the belief between the people but fail to because I left Seojin and cut off the relationship. By my action, Seojin thinks that “I am the one who is always there and support myself.”. This phrase is mentioned after she is abandoned by three different beliefs. Believing myself is not our main theme but I am worried that people might think it can be out topic because it is placed in the last part of whole scene with a happy ending.
