I was fascinated by two theatre companies, “A Caviar production” and “Cekai”. A Caviar production is located in lots of different places such as UK, LA, Amsterdam, Madrid, and paris. I first saw their works in Ms.Mor’s IB Theatre blog named “Dark Ballet.” At the start of the video, the black screen appears with the the short three sentence length narration about the darkness. They say “Darkness exists because there is light.” I was attracted by that phrase because I wanted to show a darkness of the world in my performance.

After the black screen and narration ends, a woman appears. She covered her face and body with grayish white without putting on a clothes properly. As soon as I see this, I was shocked. She is moving in slow speed with the scary facial expression, which made me to be breathless. It makes me to feel that I am watching a horror movie. One thing I was curious about it was that the genre of this performance was a documentary. It was quite different from my original image of documentary that I thought most of the documentary shows the daily life of something. However, it was more like a narration on her performance. All the narrations were in Japanese due to the reason that Cekai is a Japan theatre company. I was really inspired by this theatre and wanted to apply this in the Collaborative Project.

Different from what I expected those two companies’ works looked different. I thought both company will mainly focus about the dark mood theatre performance however, they are more like a entertainment. The upper photo is a work

from Cekai, which they had their branded work of music video, photo, and film. They were more like a entertainment compare to other theatre companies. A Caviar Production was having a adequeter mixture of dark mood and bright colors. They had TV shows, films, and music videos. One of their works that attracted my attention was the second piece of film on left hand corner on first row. This looked like there are sword passed through people’s body but it was expressed by the chair’s leg. I thought this could work with the collaborative project using projector and shadow. Looking through their works, I realized that I was more impressed on the darker, and slower films or theatre pieces. The “Dark Ballette” that I introduced at the first part impressed me a lot that I watching it over and over. At the first state, I was more interested in her movement, but watching more than once, I started to recognize the meaning of narration.
